Georgia parents often face contentious family law situations

Many parents are divorced or have never been married to their children's other parent. When there are existing court orders regarding child custody arrangements, serious family law problems can arise if a Georgia parent refuses to adhere to the terms of the agreement. This appears to be the case for parents in another state, where the mother recently informed police that the father of her son was disobeying a protection order.

The two parents have reportedly been entangled in a custody dispute. No information was provided as to what prompted the court to issue an order of protection against the father. However, the mother claims that he has disregarded the order because he followed her on several occasions.

Complicating the situation even further, the woman also told police that she was recently traveling to pick up her children from a babysitter. She says she was headed home with her kids in the car when she saw her ex on a nearby road. The woman said he intentionally swerved so that his vehicle would hit hers, which it did. She continued to travel to a location where she knew she could find her father and contact police for help.

The man was eventually taken into police custody and was booked into jail with a set bail of more than $30,000. While not every Georgia family law problem involves an acrimonious child custody dispute like this one, there may be a concerned parent who is currently trying to resolve a situation where a co-parent is refusing to adhere to a court order. In fact, any parent who feels his or her rights are being trampled by an angry ex may seek the court's intervention to resolve the problem.
