Police officer causes personal injury

Georgia residents know that, in the case of an accident or injury, it is usually proper procedure to contact the police. Police are trained to help in the event of a crisis and begin to investigate on the spot, providing sometimes life-saving information to medical professionals and, if applicable, apprehending the party responsible. In one recent case, however, it was a police officer who caused personal injury to an innocent store employee.

The ordeal began when a police officer was driving around a Georgia neighborhood. Up ahead, dogs walked in front of his cruiser, and he swerved to avoid hitting them. Unfortunately, his knee-jerk maneuver caused a serious accident. After hitting a sign and a curb, and crossing several lanes of traffic, his vehicle went through the brick wall of a gas station convenience store.

Inside, a store employee suffered personal injury when bricks from the wall hit him. Naturally, police were contacted and arrived to find a wake of destruction caused by one of their own. The matter is under investigation as officials try to determine why the officer at fault was unable to avoid such an accident.

When a Georgia resident suffers personal injury as the result of someone else's careless behavior, the aftermath may seem overwhelming for the victim. Medical bills, inability to work due to injury, and lasting physical and mental suffering can burden a victim for years to come. In many cases, it may be advisable to contact an experienced attorney. An attorney can help a victim seek justice in a court of law against the person responsible for his or her injury, and collect any monetary compensation to which a victim may be entitled.
