Father's concern becomes a matter of family law

Co-parenting can be challenging under any circumstances, but particularly when two parents find themselves at odds. Recently, a  disagreement over child support and child custody caused one father to take action when he saw evidence that his child was in imminent danger. In Georgia and elsewhere, matters of family law can often become contentious, but disputes must be handled through the legal system.

The father, a resident of another state, desperately took to social media when the mother of his child, a Georgia resident, was filmed as she tried to drown the former couple's infant. Not knowing what to do, the father posted the video online, asking for help. Local law enforcement rushed to apprehend the abusive mother at her residence.

Upon investigation into the near-death, the mother claimed she was irritated over disputes regarding child support and child custody. The father had previously suspected that she was not taking proper care of the child, and had mentioned that he felt the child should be in his custody. The frightening ordeal ended when the mother was arrested, and the infant was removed from her home, along with her other children.

When a parent feels the need to establish, modify or enforce a custody order, a knowledgeable family law attorney can help. A lawyer can advise a client how best to proceed, particularly when the concern is to ensure that children are cared for by a responsible and loving parental figure. Children should not have to suffer abuse at the hands of a parent, and an attorney may be able to help the court decide on a better arrangement for a child in these tragic circumstances.
